In schools, I strive to inspire students to read, and help students with their writing. Because I have a great deal of personal experience in working with students with writing disabilities, I understand how truly impossible writing can seem. I make it my job to empower student writers and to let them know that writing, while hard work, gets easier and more fun as you go. (I liken this to learning to ride a bike.) I also give them tips for idea generation, and tell them to go with the best idea they can come up with in the moment, even if it’s not their best idea ever. After all, I tell them, they’ll get another chance to write another day!
