What is an Assembly/Workshop? It’s a writing workshop on a grand scale! Because we need ideas before we can begin to write, this workshop empowers students to generate those ideas. Call me crazy, but with grades 2-5, each student will put together a list of possible stories, in one massive writing workshop. Then students will have the chance to write a quick “flash fiction” story. Some will get to share.

In order for an Assembly/Workshop to be effective, schools must have all hands on deck. This means all teachers, aides and specials teachers who are available. Parent volunteers are helpful as well.  Sometimes it’s impossible for schools to have enough help. In these cases, I do this workshop with 2 classes and their teachers only.
